By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Toktumi (News - Alert), the new small business phone service with comprehensive business features, has opened its beta to the public.

This free PC-based phone service, offers an enterprise-grade hosted PBX that can be set up in five minutes.

Moreover, each Toktumi line includes a phone number, inbound and outbound calling, call transfer, an auto-attendant that can forward to internal or external numbers, and includes conferencing for up to 20 people, visual voicemail, call waiting and more.

Founded in 2007, San Francisco, California-based Toktumi is dedicated to making reliable, affordable communications services available to small offices and home-based businesses by dramatically simplifying the way customers acquire, setup, and use their phone service.

“We’ve had a very successful private beta, and look forward to opening up the system more broadly,” Peter Sisson (News - Alert), CEO and founder of Toktumi, Inc said.

“We welcome entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the US to try Toktumi, and use it freely before they commit to paid calling privileges.”

Toktumi also introduced Search Dialing, which taps address books and online search engines to allow users to call any number by entering a name or keyword describing the person, company, product or service for which they are looking.

It can also be used as a softphone, although the company offers an adapter that allows customers to connect regular telephones to their PCs.

The free version  also gives business owners a phone number, voicemail, and free calling and conferencing with other Toktumi users worldwide. The complete, paid version is $12.95 per month for each line, and enables calls to regular phones worldwide for only two cents per minute plus allows customers to select their phone numbers or port their current number to Toktumi.
