Australia-based IBAP Partners with SS8 to Deliver Lawful Intercept Solutions

By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet

Independent Business Analysis (IBAP), an Australia-based company which provides lawful intercept and telecommunications management solutions, has reportedly teamed up with SS8 Networks, a leading US-based provider of lawful intercept solutions. The partnership means IBAP can now sell SS8’s Xcipio lawful intercept solution to its customers. It can also offer SS8 Networks’ services in the Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific region.

The deal is key for SS8 because it enables it to further expand its global reach and firmly establish its presence in the Australian service provider market.

SS8 delivers complete or component LI solutions to network operators, ISPs and law enforcement agencies.

“This partnership between SS8 Networks and IBAP demonstrates our continued growth in this region and leverages our expertise as the leader of lawful intercept in North America,” said KH Low, vice president of Asia Pacific at SS8 Networks, in a press release. “Partners like IBAP allow us build on our significant early success in Asia Pacific by helping service providers and government agencies to meet the new demands of electronic surveillance.”

Tony Scully, director and LI principal of IBAP, said the partnership “ensures that we can provide the local market with access to a complete lawful intercept solution, well suited to network operators and ISPs here, and elsewhere in the world.”

SS8 made news in August when it announced a sharp uptake in the number of IP-based equipment vendors joining its Acceler8 Alliance Program, which is designed to shorten the time to market for lawful intercept compliance. The program creates a structure for telecommunications equipment suppliers to ensure interoperability between network elements, while simultaneously leveraging each other’s market position. Some of the vendors now taking part in the program include Acme Packet (News - Alert), BroadSoft (News - Alert), Covergence, Kodiak Networks, Netrake, NexTone, Sylantro Systems and Tekelec (News - Alert). Part of the reason for the increased sign ups is conformance to the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), which is now mandated for many network services, including VoIP. The program ensures early interoperability and regulatory compliance for wireline, wireless, VoIP and IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) networks.

The company also made news recently when it teamed up with a group of other vendors working in the lawful intercept space to create a well-thought-out “rebuttal” to a whitepaper authored by a group of Internet experts released in June outlining potential problems for operators trying to make a May 2007 deadline for compliance with CALEA.
