Hancock Regional Hospital, in Greenfield, Ind., has selected Ascom (News - Alert) to provide campus-wide wireless telephony services.

 

Hancock Regional Hospital, a full-service 102-bed hospital, serving the Hancock County Region, chose Ascom’s FreeNET standards-based solution, which consists of market-specific WLAN portable handsets, a robust messaging system and VoIP Gateway (News - Alert) for integration with an existing circuit-switched PBX.

 

FreeNET was chosen because of its’ power, flexibility and ease of use. It allows for quicker response which enables faster and improved patient care. Hancock is currently using the i75 Medic handsets with clinical users and doctors.

 

 “The phones improved efficiency in communication between physicians and among caregivers. Users liked the ease of use and the benefits they brought to their workflow,” said Dr. Michael Fletcher, in a statement.

 

They are also currently utilizing some of the messaging capabilities sending messages to and from the handsets. The hospital under Phase 2 plans to incorporate even more messaging applications to the FreeNET system in order to receive more critical alerts and messages directly to the handsets.

 

Hill-Rom, an Ascom gold partner, installed and provides support for the system. The Ascom Freeset IP-DECT system is an on-site wireless system with dedicated infrastructure that operates in the FCC (News - Alert) protected 1920-1930 MHz band. This ensures that there is no interference issues with this equipment or other equipment utilized on-site. This system also utilizes the Ascom 9d24 EX handset that is the industries only CSA and ATEX approved on-site wireless handset for Class 1, Zone and 1 and 2 environments.
