Network equipment manufacturer Patton Electronics announced today that its SmartNode 4960 PRI VoIP integrated access device (IAD) is now available with an integrated G.SHDSL.bis modem interface. The company claims it is one of the first manufacturers to offer built-in G.SHDSL access combined with multiple T1/E1/PRI and dual gigabit-Ethernet ports in a standalone VoIP IAD.

This added support for the G.SHDSL standard enables the device to deliver Ethernet over standard 2-wire copper infrastructure – meaning the device can connect users/subscribers to either telephone exchanges or POP access points. With this added support, the device can increase profit potential for providers by streamlining the deployment of business-trunking and corporate-VoIP services.

The SmartNode 4960 features dual gigabit-Ethernet ports, one or four T1/E1/PRI ports, and 30 to 120 VOIP calls. Patton claims it delivers business-class VoIP, voice and data at speeds of up to 5.7 Mbps (ideal for smaller sized businesses) over a copper pair.

Last month Patton announced the first PRI VoIP IAD with dual gigabit-Ethernet ports, the SmartNode SN4960 T1/E1/PRI VoIP IAD. A week later the company announced its Prime Mover Advantage promotion, offering two-for-one pricing on orders placed before Oct. 31.

Patton has integrated G.SHDSL.bis into other devices as well, including its SmartNode 4650 (G.SHDSL) Multiport ISDN VoIP IAD.

Patton, an ISO 9001 manufacturer, builds an impressive array of devices for the voice and data convergence market, covering VoIP, G.SHDSL ipDSLAMs, broadband transmission, dial-up (V.90) and dedicated (xDSL) access servers, network termination units (NTUs), base-band and short-range modems, fiber-optic modems, interface converters and surge protectors.

The company last made news on TMCnet last week when it announced that it had teamed up with Pingtel Corp., maker of SIP-based enterprise class communications platforms, to deliver the SIPxNano - a tiny little IP-PBX (News - Alert) designed for small businesses with under 30 extensions. The device is designed to deliver enterprise quality, SIP-based VoIP to small and medium sized businesses. It combines Patton’s NanoServ ultra-compact server technology with a tailored version of Pingtel’s (News - Alert) SIPxchange ECS software, and delivers features including integrated voice mail and email, auto attendants, interactive voice response, and Web-based configuration and management.
