Bahrain-based full service telecommunications provider Kalaam Telecom has teamed up with the global VoIP company iBasis (News - Alert), Inc. to introduce international voice service.

Kalaam Telecom will actually interconnect with the iBasis Network to accomplish its mission. The interconnection will help Kalaam Telecom route international voice traffic over the iBasis Network.

With the interconnection, Kalaam Telecom can access iBasis’ PremiumCertified international routing product, instrumental in delivering quality and stability for international termination of calls originated by retail consumers.

According to a news release, thanks to DirectVoiP IP interconnection, Kalaam Telecom can exploit iBasis’ sophisticated network performance monitoring and call routing systems based on the company's patent-pending Assured Quality Routing technology.

Kalaam Telecom will also have immediate access to iBasis’ global VoIP network covering more than 100 on-net countries.

iBasis stands to gain from its collaboration with Kalaam Telecom as well. The relationship will help iBasis capture a significant share of international calls to and from the newly liberalized Bahrain telecommunications market and the growing VoIP adoption in the Kingdom.

Carlos Riera, CEO of Kalaam Telecom, said that they would be able to offer customers “a real choice in telecom services with superior quality, service and innovation.”

“With their VoIP expertise and global footprint, iBasis is also able to help us rapidly grow and expand our capacity to meet the strong demand for international voice services,” said Riera.

iBasis is a carrier of international long distance telephone calls. The company offers retail prepaid calling services.
