Communications giant Alcatel-Lucent has been positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant as part of Gartner's (News - Alert) "Magic Quadrant for Corporate Telephony, 2008" report. This was the first time that the report evaluated vendors from around the globe rather than just regional players.
The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace in which various vendors of the IP-based voice industry are positioned according to the criteria specified by Gartner.
According to the Gartner report, the market is evolving "from one of proprietary hardware to one of standards-based software" that provides companies the opportunity to "use IP telephony to deliver business benefits across the organization, while consolidating technologies around a common technology or solution provider, or selection of providers and their partners."
Based on open-standards, Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) telephony solutions are used for a variety of purposes including voice and video conferencing, collaboration, unified messaging, unified communications and wireless communications. The company provides the option of single supplier installations that seamlessly interlink different locations.
According to the Gartner report, "Market leaders demonstrate strength and can affect market trends in all the criteria on which they are evaluated. Leaders tend to have broad geographical coverage across the globe or particular strengths in one or more key global markets."
Catering to service providers, enterprises and governments, Alcatel-Lucent delivers end-to-end fixed, mobile and converged broadband access, carrier and enterprise IP technologies, applications, and services. The company is organized into three business groups: The Carrier Business Group, the Enterprise Business Group and the Services Business Group. It has 77,000 employees and operations in over 30 countries.
Mark your calendars for INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year. ITEXPO (News - Alert) will take place in Los Angeles, California, September 16-18, 2008, featuring three valuable days of exhibits, conferences, and networking opportunities you can’t afford to miss.
