Ascom Joins Avaya's DeveloperConnection Program

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Wireless communications provider Ascom announced Wednesday that it has been selected by Avaya (News - Alert) to join the company’s DeveloperConnection program.

Ascom is the developer of the FreeNET VoWiFi System for voice over WiFi, i75 wireless handsets and UNITE Messaging Suite, a family of applications that deliver messages, alerts and data from any information system directly to on-site handsets, wide-area pagers, cell phones, PDAs and Blackberry devices.

With the compatibility of Ascom’s wireless handsets with SIP-enabled Avaya IP telephony solutions, now businesses can deploy on-site wireless capabilities that allow a mobile workforce to stay in constant contact with internal colleagues and external customers.

“Membership in Avaya’s developer community will help us build our business by serving customers more efficiently and effectively,” said Ascom’s president Chad West in a statement. “Building on Avaya resources and working more closely with the company to deliver compliance-tested solutions to the market, we are able to reduce network complexity, improve security and reliability, and speed time to deployment so businesses can quickly realize a benefit to their bottom line.”

The Avaya DeveloperConnection program serves as a platform for companies wanting to join Avaya to develop, market and sell third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology. As a member of the program, Ascom will be eligible to submit products for compatibility testing by the Avaya Solution Interoperability and Test Lab located in Lincroft, New Jersey.

“With the involvement of companies like Ascom, our Avaya developer community has become a catalyst for rapid innovation, creating multivendor applications that help enterprises around the world unleash powerful new possibilities for operating more efficiently and effectively,” said Eric Rossman, vice president, developer relations and technical alliances, Avaya. “We help businesses embed secure, reliable Intelligent Communications into the very fabric of their organization so employees and customers have ready access to information regardless of where they are and how they prefer to communicate.”

Avaya awarded membership to its DeveloperConnection program to Netcordia as well just last month by rating the company’s network analysis tool, the NetMRI, “Avaya-Compliant.” The move will make the system compatible with the main IP telephony solutions from Avaya. The NetMRI set of diagnostic tools analyzes wireless, VPN, VLAN, IP and VoIP problems.

NetMRI is now compatible with the Avaya Communication Manager 3.1.2 IP telephony software. Specifically, NetMRI collects and analyzes Call Detail Records from Avaya’s software daily. The info retrieved from this activity provides network managers with a general idea of the voice traffic's travel throughout the network to aid in troubleshooting problems.
