GL Communications has announced the release of PacketCheck, a PC-based Ethernet test tool that can be used to check frame transport ability and throughput parameters of Ethernet and IP networks.
GL Communications (News - Alert) provides PC-based test, analysis and simulation products as well as consulting services to customers in the telecommunications industry.
PacketCheck makes use of the network interface card (NIC (News - Alert)) in the PC to transmit and receive Ethernet packets over the network.
It can be used as an Ethernet performance analysis for 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps Ethernet local area networks as well as to test throughput of up to 500 Mbps.
Testing of user defined test patterns is facilitated by the BER testing capability present in the tool and PacketCheck enables users to specify the format length, type, source IP and MAC address as well as the destination IP and MAC address.
End to end performance statistics such as total packets, packet loss, out of sequence packets, error packets, correct pattern frames, pattern sync status, and protocol statistics can also be monitored with the help of PacketCheck.
PacketCheck is capable of generating full duplex IP, UDP (News - Alert) or Ethernet frame traffic to transmit/receive traffic on any of the three layers of the OSI reference model such as data link (Layer 2), network (Layer 3) and transport (Layer 4) and can control traffic duration with Tx and Rx run-time settings in seconds.
PacketCheck generates the test report summary in a log file and provides NIC performance details that include received OK frames, buffer overflow frames and received error frames.
The Ethernet Tester can be used in Layer 2 of the OSI reference model to test the capability of the switches to handle the MAC frames at various bandwidths or can be used to test the incoming data at this layer by analyzing bit patterns of the received frames.
