Datatronics Deploys NewNet CT SS7 and SIGTRAN Signaling Platform

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

Datatronics, a VAR and System Integrator supplier of solutions for the fixed and wireless market, and NewNet CT, a provider of signaling and messaging solutions for wireless, IP, and wireline networks, announced that they have deployed the NewNet (News - Alert) CT Distributed7 Signaling Platform in several operators in Latin America to provide prepaid and postpaid services.

Signaling System 7 (SS7) is a set of telecommunications signaling protocols. Defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), that is used in the support of call services for both mobile and fixed calling.

The SIGTRAN (SIGnalling TRANsport) is part of the NGN protocols for transporting signaling over IP based networks. It is designed for transporting signaling traffic such as ISDN, SS7 and V5 over an IP network. SIGTRAN is composed of the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) and the User Adaption Layers (UA) for each signaling protocol transported over IP.

The system calculates the cost of the services in real-time and enables subscribers access to services based on the subscriber's account balance. The systems are deployed on the NewNet CT (News - Alert) Distributed7 framework, which integrates the applications to the network signaling path using SS7 or SIGTRAN, allowing exchange of data for service charging and decide for permission for access to services like voice, SMS or USSD.

NewNet CT's Distributed7 is a framework supporting application development on SS7 and SIGTRAN networks. The platform offers a distributed environment and then high-performance, scalable, and resilient applications are built and deployed in converged network environments, reducing cost.

Distributed7 launched in Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Argentina.

According to Tom Gudsnuk, President and CEO of NewNet CT, "We have enjoyed a very close working relationship with Datatronics (News - Alert) for many years and this partnership continues to provide exceptional value to customers."

"Datatronics' experience in telecom networks and deep knowledge of the NewNet CT Distributed7 framework has been a key factor to integrate the systems within the different operators' networks," added Gudsnuk.

"The prepaid and postpaid services are growing quickly in the Latin America region and operators need a proven, highly scalable solution to support that growth. We selected Distributed7 after a comprehensive certification process. We have worked tightly with the operators providing all the professional services needed to do the integration and deployments successfully," stated Oscar Gonzalez, VP Sales & Business Development at Datatronics Telecom.
