EB Tough VoIP Solution Enhances Communications for Defense Workers

By Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor

Elektrobit Corporation (EB), a company focusing on the development of innovative embedded technology solutions for the automotive and wireless industries, revealed its EB Tough VoIP system at this week’s International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2009 held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

This new solution provides users with a strong and dependable way to communicate using IP data and voice services. EB Tough VoIP was specially designed to survive even the toughest environmental conditions.

As a key IP voice and data communications solution for any defense application, EB Tough VoIP allows for high levels of security through utilization of data encryption and authentication mechanisms.

Its ability to deliver VoIP services independent of network services availability, make EB Tough VoIP unique when comparing it to similar solutions.

One base taking advantage of the EB’s innovations is the Finnish Air Force (FIAF). The company has been striving to create airbase telephone and data services based on IP and VoIP since 2006. FIAF will be utilizing the EB Tough VoIP system in their operations starting later this year. With this advancement, the air force base will gain enhanced IP-based voice communications for airfield service personnel servicing an aircraft and carrying out other maintenance operations.

In addition, both aircraft pilot and service technicians working around the aircraft’s location are given their own VoIP and data capability.

"EB Tough VoIP is a revolutionary system that enables all IP communications in even the most challenging of environments," said Marko Koski, director of sales, EB. "EB has a long history of creating sophisticated defense solutions that test the limits of technologies, and the EB Tough VoIP system further illustrates the types of advanced solutions we're capable of developing."

The solution provides an integrated and embedded solution for VoIP and data services, in wired mode, regardless of availability of network services such as SIP (Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert)) or DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

It is also built to last and can withstand even the roughest weather conditions, or handling thanks to its rugged design that requires no additional protection or housing.

Another major advantage is that users will not have to worry about being near an electrical outlet to charge EB Tough VoIP, as it can operate solely on batteries.

EB Tough VoIP is mainly used as a standalone system, but it can also be integrated into customers' existing communications infrastructure. The solution gives the user critical, reliable services without the need of additional network services, such as SIP.

The EB Tough VoIP units can be utilized as network components, such as the EB Tough VoIP Terminal and the EB Tough VoIP Network Extender. The EB Tough VoIP Terminal can be used with application specific headsets and handsets that are often used with tactical radio or digital field telephony equipment.

An integrated unit, the EB Network Extender provides the functionalities of a VoIP terminal, Ethernet switch and multi-channel SHDSL (Single-Pair High-speed Digital Subscriber Line) modem and it can be used to provide broadband wired connectivity, and VoIP services to the field, in LAN or WAN configuration.

Elektrobit (News - Alert) Corporation develops advanced technology and transforms it into enriching end-user experiences. With a long successful history with leading companies in the automotive and wireless markets, EB is recognized as a trusted innovation partner that strives to exceed its clients’ expectations.
