Gigamon has announced that its innovative Data Access Network (DAN) can help companies reduce capital outlay for important monitoring projects. As a proof of its claim, the company announced that two of its customers were recently able to save $2.71 million and $1.43 million, respectively.
Prior to the recession, companies used to deploy a huge number of security and network monitoring tools in their networks to ensure security. But with the recession showing no signs of ending, budgetary constraints have taken priority and the companies have been looking for a more concentrated yet scalable solution.
Allowing tools to work more effectively and accurately, Gigamon's (News - Alert) DAN system facilitates and streamlines the intelligent, centralized deployment of monitoring tools. The system uses a hardware based data access switch, the GigaVUE, to achieve its purpose. This switch is packet-aware and can divide traffic and distribute packets at line rate.
“Gigamon technology can produce substantial savings--orders of magnitude greater than with non-aggregated Matrix Switch, SPAN or TAP strategies," said Patrick Leong, Gigamon's chief technical officer. "With most corporate IT budgets flat at best or even declining in 2009, Gigamon's Data Access Network approach can meet the conflicting tasks of increasing IT performance while stretching investment dollars.”
The DAN system can provide facilities such as intrusion detection, SOX compliance, forensic recording, VoIP analysis, lawful intercept, system troubleshooting and customer experience. Also, to ensure that each tool gets the exact information it needs, GigaVUE switches can aggregate and filter traffic. The system also reduces the capital cost of a larger distributed tool deployment with the consolidation and centralization of monitoring tools.
Recently, the company won three new patents for its innovative data access switching technology. The U.S. Patents No. 7,424,018, 7,436,832, and 7,440,467 will ensure the protection of Gigamon’s core Data Access Network (DAN) technology. Gigamon's DAN technology powers the company’s GigaVUE line of data access switches. These switches have been deployed by more than 400 telecom, industrial, manufacturing, financial, research, medical, retail, utility and government networks in 36 countries.
