California Academy of Science Deploys Tadiran Telecom VoIP Solution

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

After spending ten years and sinking $500 million in making a sustainable architecture and multi-purpose building, the California Academy of Science is truly on the forefront of technology.

And when the Academy went looking for a Voice over Internet Protocol to match its existing advance technologies and round out the key elements in executing a harmonious and efficient facility, it used Tadiran (News - Alert) Telecom for the solution.

Working closely during the planning and building process, Affinitel Communications of San Francisco implemented a host of communication applications by Tadiran Telecom.

Located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco the California Academy of Science includes a four-story rain forest, an aquarium, a planetarium and a colony of African penguins. And Tadiran VoIP is now a key element in the information of the efficient facility.

“The California Academy of Sciences is a premier destination for tourists, enthusiasts, and researchers worldwide. We chose Tadiran Telecom for their infrastructure in order support their ability to deliver platinum service to their community” said Pankaj Amin, president, Affinitel Communications.

In addition to an extensive list of museum and educational exhibits, the facility also houses a large research facility and administrative offices. Affinitel implemented a Coral IPx system to power (500) T208 IP telephones throughout the building.

The Tadiran Coral Sea Softswitch saves companies on conference call costs, as well as provide a centralized management for remote user. The Coral Sea provides remote IP telephone support and is a key element in the goal of centralizing telephone system administration providing better response to each school. The Coral Sea standards-based architecture also allows the district to use SIP gateways by third party vendors.

The staff at the Academy will now utilize features of the Coral IPx including conferences bridges for regular meetings and FlexiCall to integrate to cellular telephones. Call Center reporting is provided with Composit Contact Pro, and a T3 voice processing system provides unified messaging, speech recognition, and IVR. Current plans call for IVR prompts to be played at exhibits as well as emergency out-calls notifications for infrastructure alarms.

As TMCnet recently reported, the Medford School District, a geographically diverse system of twenty schools in located in Oregon, is one such group discovering the wide range of benefits that come with migrating to the softswitch.
