Radicomm Partners With Motorola And Intermec To Create Push-to-Talk Software Client

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Radicomm, Inc. has created QuickTalk, a Push-to-Talk software client in partnership with Motorola (News - Alert) and Intermec. This VoIP software is designed for rugged Windows Mobile and CE devices. The software’s seamless architecture makes it a perfect fit for streamlining labor management, according to the company.

QuickTalk will run on any device with Windows Mobile 5.0 or later. The Windows PC version will create an ideal solution for office employees to communicate with workers on the warehouse floor. According to Brad Radaker, co-founder and CEO of Radicomm, QuickTalk enables supervisors to converse directly with any employee in the warehouse at any given time, over the same device that they are using to perform primary tasks.

QuickTalk is ideal for warehouses, distribution centers and other industrial environments like healthcare and food distribution industries, according to Radaker. It will run seamlessly on Automated Data Collection (ADC (News - Alert)) devices such as the Motorola MC9090, MC75 and MC55 or the Intermec CN3, CK3 and CK61. QuickTalk utilizes a site's existing wireless infrastructure, which helps to eliminate the drawbacks of traditional push-to-talk services such as monthly wireless charges and dropped connections.

The QuickTalk client starts in the background and will run invisibly on a worker's mobile device. When an authorized individual calls him, a push-to-talk connection "chirp" will be heard, which will be followed directly by the caller's voice. During this time, the recipient's screen will not change, and he can continue performing any function while listening to the caller. The recipient has to hold down a designated button on his mobile device in order to respond.

QuickTalk will enable workers to quickly contact their supervisors as well. It enables creation of site-to-site trust relationships so that certain users in one site can contact certain users in another site over the company WAN. It is possible to configure such options through a Windows-based administration program. A "single sign-on" interface is exposed so that 3rd party software can be created to automatically log users into the QuickTalk system whenever they're logged into an external system.

QuickTalk will encrypt all login credentials of a user with 256-bit Rijndael encryption before being transmitted over the network making it secure. QuickTalk is free for up to five users. It is also possible to add additional users for a low one-time cost.
