Positron Inc. has acquired Aktino Inc., a developer of carrier class MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) over Discrete Multitone (DMT) bonded copper solutions.
“Aktino’s (News - Alert) MIMO-DMT technology and products are deployed by major carriers to deliver fiber-like SLA’s,” said Claude Brisson, COO of Positron Inc., in a statement.
Brisson said that by leveraging existing copper infrastructure, the Aktino solution enables carriers to deploy Ethernet and DS3 services faster while obtaining fiber-like bandwidth on a copper budget.
“Positron has been a market leader in providing high quality reliable telecommunication solutions for over 35 years with long-standing relationships with RBOCs, independent telephone companies and carriers in North America and globally,” said Hossam Salib Co-Founder of Aktino.
Salib said Positron’s technical and corporate strength, and experience in developing critical applications such as 911 systems and optical transport platforms, are key for the continued development, support and growth of the Aktino copper bonding MIMO on DMT (News - Alert) products.
Aktino officials claim the company’s MIMO-DMT solution has superior rate, reach and reliable performance versus legacy and other bonded-copper solutions.
According to officials it extends reliable high bandwidth over a Carrier Service Area (CSA), providing a cost effective and extended Ethernet service footprint for the carriers.
Aktino products deliver five to 100 Mbps Carrier Ethernet and DS3 TDM solutions, making them ideal for applications by providing Ethernet services for Business, DSLAM backhaul and cell site backhaul applications.
Claude Brisson said customers require the flexibility to deploy fiber, copper, SONET/SDH or packet-based solutions when building today’s networks to deliver converged voice and Ethernet services.
“The Aktino acquisition adds a world-leading technology and product solution to Positron’s Access portfolio and combines two strong teams to better address our customers’ challenges,” concludes Brisson.
Founded in 1970, Positron Inc, a member of the Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert), develops and manufactures fiber optic transmission equipment for access, metro and core transport networks.
