GENBAND Enhances G2 Compact Gateway

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

GENBAND Inc., a developer of next-generation IP infrastructure solutions, has announced new enhancements to its G2 Compact Gateway (News - Alert), including interfaces and trunking for E1 circuits used in countries other than the U.S., like Canada and Japan.

GENBAND (News - Alert) also incorporated Emergency Standalone (ESA) features into the G2 for providing emergency announcements and for handling variable international emergency dial plans.

The GENBAND G2 (News - Alert) Compact Gateway is a carrier-class, fully redundant, multipurpose gateway which is robust and comes in a small sized chassis which enables operators to buy capacity incrementally. This allows them to buy capacity as and when needed thereby consuming less energy. It supports up to 24 E1s, PRIs or T1s and offers an economical and environmental solution.

“We are pleased to extend the capabilities of our G2 Compact Gateway to meet the E1 requirements of international markets while simultaneously addressing worldwide ESA requirements in a single box,” said Mehmet Balos (News - Alert), Chief Marketing Officer at GENBAND.

“Perhaps more than ever before, network operators across the globe are seeking innovative solutions that meet their network evolution needs while maintaining the lowest possible CapEx and OpEx levels. The G2 allows operators to perform several different functions with a small, single box ideally suited for distributed architectures,” added Balos.

According to GENBAND, the G2 is capable of serving ILEC, RLEC, PTT, CLEC and cable networks and it also has the ability to support multiple service architectures including Access Gateway (Voice over Broadband), Packet Line Gateway and Trunk Gateway. The G2 platform also supports legacy networks, IMS, SIP application servers and softswitch-based networks.

The G2 is a Packet Line Gateway and it allows SIP application servers, softswitches and IMS core products to provide call control to customer lines on access platforms like digital carriers and class 5 line frames like DCO and EWSD line frames. It functions as a trunking gateway enabling circuit-to-packet media conversion, CALEA, E911, security and other services using H.248, MGCP or SIP-based call control. As G2 supports all Packet Line Gateway and Trunk Gateway functions, it does not require different elements for different functions.

GENBAND provides IP media, session border and fixed mobile convergence security solutions to service providers worldwide. These gateway solutions form the core of fixed and mobile networks for evolving, securing and enhancing communications networks.
