Alaska Communications Systems (News - Alert) Group Inc. has launched its goVocal Internet phone service, which provides Alaskans with an easy-to-use VoIP solution.

Through simple-to-install goVocal equipment, calls can be made with standard telephones connected to the Internet. A new Alaska telephone number comes with the service. While a second telephone number with the area code and city of the customer's choice is also provided by the company, customers can also keep their existing and familiar telephone number.

The new goVocal Internet phone service includes several features such as virtually unlimited outbound calls from the goVocal line to all points in Alaska, elsewhere in the US and Canada, and unlimited inbound calls at no long distance charge to the caller from the goVocal customer's hand-picked area code and city.

The service also offers unlimited calling between two goVocal customers even internationally, lowest-ever international rates and a full set of web-based features to further customize the goVocal experience.

“goVocal is long distance reinvented - two-way, inbound and outbound calling, all for one low price. Our customer research suggests that Alaskans will truly value the in-state long distance and international calling that are a part of this extraordinary product, and yet the product benefits only begin with those advantages,” said Liane Pelletier, president and chief executive officer of ACS in a press release.

“Many innovations are included in goVocal, and ACS is thrilled to bring them to Alaska,” he added.

Since goVocal is portable, the small, easy-to-plug-in goVocal equipment connects to the Internet anywhere, giving customers the benefits of this innovative product even when they travel.

ACS is a major integrated communications provider in Alaska, offering local telephone service, wireless, long distance, data, and Internet services to business and residential customers throughout Alaska.
