By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

3Tera's AppLogic cloud computing platform has selected Japan’s telecom carrier, KDDI, to deliver the next generation IT platform through their new "KDDI (News - Alert) Cloud Server Service" offering.

3Tera's cloud platform offers Telcos a production-proven turnkey platform, powering data centers around the world. AppLogic helps service providers gain access to additional functionality such as visual applications infrastructure editor, real-time scalability, system resource management, comprehensive monitoring and even critical features such as business continuity, disaster recovery.

According to Barry X Lynn, chairman and CEO, 3Tera, Cloud Computing technology is quickly transforming computing into a utility, and this makes Telcos logical providers for cloud services.

3Tera recognizes KDDI’s reputation in technology innovation and thus this win demonstrates 3Tera's AppLogic cloud computing platform.

In Senior Communications Market Analyst at 3Tera, Akiko Kawakami’s, August 2009 report, “KDDI's Next Generation IT Infrastructure ‘Cloud Server Service’: Will It Accelerate User Migration to Managed Services?” Kawakami said that the field of Infrastructure-as-a-service, or “IaaS,” is receiving much momentum since no IT assets are needed and it alleviates the work involved in the procurement and introduction of IT infrastructure.

KDDI's new service can fulfill the expectations of user companies embracing cloud services.

Initial offerings include virtual systems and virtual private data centers run at the KDDI Telehouse domestic data centers. These offerings allow KDDI to offer both IaaS and PaaS solutions, which let customers to run their existing applications on the IT platform or use KDDI's prepared applications to significantly lower their initial investment and operational costs.

3Tera’s distribution and hosting partners in Japan are Net One Systems and Xseed. Lynn said that these partners made their expertise available and kept close contact with the customer which both key factors in the implementation on the new services.
