Intervoice Media Exchange Upgraded to Support Apple iPhone's Visual Voicemail Service

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Relationship management company Convergys Corp. announced that U.K based O2 UK, a communications company for consumers and businesses, has upgraded its Intervoice (News - Alert) Media Exchange solution to support the visual voicemail service used by its Apple iPhone subscribers.

Thanks to the multi-application capability of the Media Exchange solution, O2 UK can now offer both visual voicemail and traditional voicemail from a single platform. Convergys (News - Alert) officials said that the upgrade contract includes hardware, software, and professional services.

“When Convergys acquired Intervoice and its portfolio of solutions, we knew that service providers worldwide, including O2 UK, regarded Media Exchange as a strategic differentiator in the provision of new services,” said Frank Sherlock, senior vice president and managing director international for Global Business Unit at Convergys, in a statement.

Sherlock said that the user-friendly visual voicemail, provided by O2 and powered by Media Exchange, is placing the latest technology right at “subscribers’ fingertips.”

Visual voicemail is considered as the next improvement in voicemail. Officials said that via the user-friendly service, messages are available for immediate playback directly from the mobile device, eliminating the need to call a separate number to retrieve messages. With the touch of a finger, O2’s Apple (News - Alert) iPhone subscribers can listen to their messages and rewind, fast forward, and delete them, said officials.

Part of Convergys’ portfolio of Relationship Management solutions, Media Exchange is an IP-based multimodal and multi-media communications platform. Officials said that it has been designed using open standards and incorporating industry-leading technology.

In addition, officials said that Media Exchange uses secure e-mail-like technology to transform voice-based messages to cost-effective data packets on retrieval and then delivering those messages directly to the subscribers’ device.

With Media Exchange, operators can offer their subscribers high levels of personalization, voice-navigated messaging, video, Web, and wireless application protocol access. Officials said that operators can offer all these from a single subscriber mailbox, and subscribers have access to these services from landlines, mobile phones, or the Web.
