ActiveVideo Plans to Move OEMs to the ActiveVideo CloudTV Platform

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

ActiveVideo Networks, a provider of cloud-based interactive services, has stated that Henry Choy, a thought leader in consumer electronics, or “CE,” industry has joined them as Vice President, Business Development.

Choy will be responsible for driving the company’s Web-Connected TV initiative and moving Original Equipment Manufacturers, or “OEMs,” to the ActiveVideo CloudTV platform which will significantly increase the reach and availability of rich, Web-based user experiences that are supposedly redefining connected TV and Blu-ray players.

Henry Choy began his career in 1985 with AMD (News - Alert), where he served seven years as senior product engineer and senior product marketing engineer. Then he was the head of many business development, marketing and sales initiatives for a range of Silicon Valley firms including Oak Technology, Yamaha (News - Alert), 3Dlabs, Rendition, 3Dfx, Silicon Motion and Rambus Inc. Most recently had served as vice president, consumer electronics business development for AnySource Media, an enabler of next-generation content on traditional CE devices.

ActiveVideo has stated that they are gaining more ground in the CE industry and it is essential for them to have deeper levels of expertise to build stronger partnerships and satisfy industry needs. Henry Choy has extensive background in the CE industry, longstanding relationships, and a track record of success – qualities that they were looking for.

Choy has commented that ActiveVideo Networks' proven success in helping cable operators to engage subscribers and generate revenue has attracted the interest of the CE industry. By accelerating the availability of the ActiveVideo platform across a wide variety of devices, they will build a solid viewer foundation that will help to support the creation of the next generation of television content.

The ActiveVideo CloudTV platform leverages content stored and processed in the network ‘cloud’ to significantly expand the reach and availability of rich, Web-based user experiences that are redefining interactive television, or “iTV 2.0.” The company has claimed to have the capability to help CE manufacturers and retailers to simply and cost-effectively increase the value of their products by enabling differentiated content and interactivity and opening up the possibility of new revenue streams.

In related news, ActiveVideo redefined iTV 2.0 with Avinity (News - Alert) Systems acquisition and utilized Internap (News - Alert) services for Web Infused TV.
