Telkonet Announces EthoStream Gateway Server Dual for Hospitality Sector

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Telkonet, a company that develops and manufactures proprietary energy management and SmartGrid networking technology, reportedly introduced EthoStream Gateway (News - Alert) Server Dual, also known as EGS Dual, targeting the $84M hospitality High Speed Internet Access gateway market.

EGS Dual, according to company officials, provides network redundancy and optimizes HSIA bandwidth.

Telkonet (News - Alert) offers high-speed Internet access products and support services to over 2,300 hotel properties and 197,000-plus rooms in the United States. The new technology further underlines the company’s focus on evolving technology that enables hotel management to realize operational efficiencies and deliver high levels of guest satisfaction, company officials said.

EGS Dual, according to company officials, was developed in response to requests from smaller hotel properties for a low cost dual gateway.

“By developing best-of-breed IP-based solutions, we have become one of the largest hospitality HSIA providers,” Jason Tienor, president and CEO of Telkonet, said in a statement. “We're continuously focused on leading the industry with innovative technology that maximizes the value of our customers' Internet infrastructure, increasing efficiency, and streamlining operations.”

Telkonet believes in a philosophy of offering mid-scale and limited service properties a way to cost-effectively meet their guests' growing demands for enhanced Internet services including streaming audio and video, gaming and virtual private network (VPN) applications with always-on Internet connectivity, Tienor further said.

With many guests using Internet for social networking and IP-based video services, there is a constant pressure to increase bandwidth. However, many of the low-budget properties are not able to afford the additional expensive equipment required to provide these services.

EthoStream's new gateway solves this problem by aggregating the traffic from the fixed wireless Internet Service Provider and Digital Subscriber Line lines, providing greater bandwidth and delivering maximum performance from their existing infrastructure.

EGS Dual combines two broadband connections into one single network, so it enables alternate circuit in case one circuit fails, helping the hotels prevent network downtime and accommodate high bandwidth to support applications such as VPN applications and movie downloads.

The new solution also integrates with EthoStream's Web-based Remote Management Console, enabling remote monitoring and management of a hotel's HSIA system centrally from one remote location, Telkonet officials said.

Company officials said that EGS Dual costs about 50 percent less than similar product offerings.

Recently Telkonet announced that Hoku Solar, a subsidiary of Hoku Scientific (News - Alert), has installed Telkonet's powerline communications system for operation with its Clean Technology solar power system at Lihue Airport in Kauai, Hawaii.

According to company officials, Telkonet iWire System is enabling IP network connectivity for Hoku Solar's 338 kilowatt photovoltaic power system that provides low-cost solar electricity to the airport.
