Tel Aviv, Israel-based CopperGate, a subsidiary of Sigma Designs and an IPTV (News - Alert) chipset provider, has announced that Asoka is developing HomePlug AV bridges based upon CopperGate’s CG2110 Chipset.

Asoka supplies HomePlug solutions to North American service providers. With the new Asoka HomePlug AV adapters, service providers will be able to deliver data and video using existing power line wires inside consumer homes, said Asoka officials.

The new device is based upon the new ultra-green CopperGate HomePlug CG2210 chipset. This chipset is real-world optimized to deliver higher throughput, wider coverage, easier set-up, and uses as little as half the power as solutions based on competitive chipsets, said CopperGate officials.

“The new CopperGate chip has delivered on its promise. It is high performance, reliable, fully compatible with existing solutions, robust and very affordable,” said David Hubbard, CEO at Asoka, in a release.

A HomePlug AV chipset, CopperGate CG2110 delivers 200 Mbit/s of PHY layer performance. Company officials said that the HomePlug AV CG2110 Chipset consumes as little as half the power of rival solutions. In addition, it fully complies with energy efficiency standards such as the European Commission's Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment.

“Asoka is a leading HomePlug vendor and has relationships with the largest service providers in North America. We are very pleased to announce our relationship with Asoka and look forward to jointly bringing the great CopperGate technology to their large customer base,” said Gabi Hilevitz, CEO at CopperGate.

Sigma Designs (News - Alert) is a fabless semiconductor provider of integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions that are used to deliver entertainment and control throughout the home. Recently, the company announced that the Adobe Flash Lite Software, the Flash Player for mobile phones and devices will soon feature in the (SoC solutions of Sigma Designs.
