After posting a very successful year, magicJack Inventor and Founder Dan Borislow reportedly launched what could be the smallest and cheapest plug and play femtocell technology. This is the first time that such an offering has been made available in the industry.
MagicJack’s femtocell technology helps users’ cell phones or smartphones access the Internet via its Voice Network, instead of their own carrier network. Users can offset accumulated cellular minutes which could result in savings of several thousand dollars annually. A magicJack account costs only $20 a year. The savings can jump to 95 percent to100 percent of current cellular carrier rates when calling internationally. The Femtocell (News - Alert) technology also delivers high voice quality consistently to users.
This offering will work well with mobile phones from almost any service provider and users may even use an old GSM cell phone without any paid service plans. Users can connect to both their own magicJack device and to other femtocell-enabled devices at friends’ houses and businesses, provided they register the connection while within eight feet of the magicJack. Once registered, they can connect to the device from a range of 3,000 square feet.
The ease-of-use, compact size and very low cost structure of magicJack’s femtocell technology will be critical factors in deciding which company will manage wide scale deployment using femtocell. MagicJack has been evolving this technology for more than six years. Dr. YW Sing, the inventor of the first video phone chip and Dan Borislow, the inventor of magicJack, have designed and built a new chip that makes use of the latest femtocell offering. This chip will redefine the way users are able to contact 911 emergency centers also. The femtocell product will be first made available to magicJacks' existing customer base.
YMAX Voice Network provides full support for magicJack and grew to 200,000 new customers per month in 2009. YMAX devised the network to be the lowest cost and highest quality voice network in the industry with more than 50 switches/gateways and more session border controllers for security than any other telecom company. MagicJack is a subsidiary of YMAX.
MagicJack has sold more than five million of its flagship offerings to date. These plug and play devices can do away with existing home or business phone service at a cost of just $20 a year by providing free local and long distance, free voice mail, your own phone number and many other features. Ever since it was introduced the magicJack has received multiple ‘product of the year’ awards. The company is adding 8,000 new customers a day and is also sold by virtually every major retailer and online. Radio Shack bestowed its most innovative product of the year award to magicJack in 2009.
