StillSecure, a provider of secure network infrastructure solutions, has reportedly launched a new managed security service called “ProtectPoint Virtual Security Service,” which allows data centers, hosting providers and colocation facilities to provide secure virtual environments for their customers.
“All of the security considerations that apply to a physical network apply to the virtual environment, yet it is mistakenly assumed that going virtual means you are automatically secure,” said Steve Harris, vice president of managed security services at StillSecure (News - Alert).
“With ProtectPoint VSS, we are providing an easy to implement, scalable method for securing the virtual environment. And, perhaps best of all, StillSecure manages the entire process through our award-winning ProtectPoint managed services platform,” Harris added.
ProtectPoint managed security services is aimed at helping organizations lower total cost. Managed security services include firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, Web security, e-mail security, and vulnerability scanning, which are all backed by a 24x7x365 Security Operations Center that is staffed by certified security analysts. VSS can also be a key ingredient in building a private cloud environment for enterprises.
Moreover, unlike other security solutions that can only monitor the physical-to-virtual connection, ProtectPoint VSS leverages VMware’s VMsafe APIs to access the “hypervisor” and secure virtual-to-virtual connections within the virtual environment. Added to this, StillSecure’s SAS (News - Alert)-70 Type II certified security operations center is said to manage all of the operations for a low monthly or annual fee.
“StillSecure understands the importance of layering security onto the virtual network,” Said Roger Barranco, chief technology officer and vice president of operations for Host.net (News - Alert), the first StillSecure partner to deploy a managed virtual security solution for customers. “Using their logical security service allows us to protect our customers from all angles in our SAS 70 Type II and PCI (News - Alert) certified data centers.”
Data centers, hosting providers and colocation facilities with multi-tenant, multi-customer environments can take advantage of this scalability to decrease costs and increase operational efficiencies while generating additional revenue, according to the company.
In addition, ProtectPoint VSS takes advantage of VMware’s VMotion technology, which leverages the complete virtualization of servers, storage and networking to move an entire running virtual machine instantaneously from one physical server to another. This is especially beneficial during disaster recovery situations, clarified StillSecure’s statement.
