Nimbuzz, a mobile social VoIP and instant messaging application provider, has selected Interxion to house its mission-critical application infrastructure. Interxion is a European operator of carrier-neutral data centers.

To cater to the needs of nearly 20,000 users signing to use Nimbuzz applications every day the company required a highly connected facility with optimum flexibility, support and scalability. Hence it selected Interxion, said company sources.

The Nimbuzz servers have been installed in the new Interxion AMS5 data center in Amsterdam. This 7,000 m2 highly secure facility provides 2N UPS redundancy and N+ 1 backup generator, and enables direct access to 30 carriers and ISPs as well as the AMS-IX and NL-IX Internet Exchanges.

The Interxion data center provides high-density power configurations to customers as standard, besides featuring energy-efficient design and operation measures. The power supply is maintained through a mixture of wind, biomass and hydroelectric-generated energy.  

Nimbuzz sources added that the Nimbuzz application supports social networks like Facebook, Google (News - Alert) Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, ICQ, Skype, and local social networks such as Hyves in the Netherlands. It also provides a one-stop access to social networks and from November 2009 Nimbuzz has also started offering its own VoIP service.
