San Jose, Calif.-based Covad Communications Company, a national provider of voice and data communications, announced that it will launch nationwide Ethernet services that are tailored to run business-class, real-time applications like Voice over IP, video, gaming, VPNs and video conferencing.

 

Expected to be launched in mid-April 2010, the new Ethernet services will run the applications through multiple traffic-handling options via Quality of Service and Class of Service. Backed by powerful service level agreements (SLAs), these service offerings are purpose-built for cost-effective business voice, data and video on a unified network, said officials with Covad (News - Alert) in a press release.

 

Covad provides integrated voice and data communications solutions by combining broadband solutions with mission-critical service. The company offers a wide range of access and hub aggregation services, such as Ethernet, T1, and DSL. It also manages an IP/MPLS network that delivers integrated voice, video, and data solutions.

 

Patrick Bennett, president and chief executive officer at Covad, said, “Ethernet is an important component of Covad’s overall portfolio strategy. What will differentiate this product in the market is the integrated QoS and CoS options that give our partners immense flexibility in optimizing network performance based on their application requirements.”

 

Available at speeds from 1.5 Mbps to 35 Mbps, Covad’s new services can be either offered with dedicated Internet access or aggregated with one of the company’s Gigabit Ethernet-based hub aggregation services.

 

Bennett added, “Covad Ethernet extends the availability of higher-bandwidth products while also offering new, even more cost-effective Ethernet services at the lower end of the broadband speed curve. Our new services have been purpose-built to support revenue-generating, value-added services such as VoIP, video conferencing, VPN and software as a service.”

 

Officials with Covad said that the company is continuing to invest in its network to create intelligent broadband services platform. With the help of new services, partners can use to expand their offerings, reach more customers, as well as increase revenues.

 

In addition, Covad’s Ethernet products can be integrated with value-added services like MPLS VPNs and QoS/CoS to gain new customers and enable up sell opportunities for existing customers, said officials in the release.

 

According to Covad, the company began testing its Ethernet services on a technical level with a limited offering in selected markets, last year.

 

Currently, Covad’s broadband services are available across the nation in 45 states and 240 metropolitan statistical areas.
