Verizon Business Debuts Global Fixed Mobile Convergence in Europe

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Verizon Business (News - Alert), a dealer in communications and IT solutions, has unveiled a new service called Global Fixed Mobile Convergence (News - Alert) though which the company intends to reduce mobile phone roaming charges for European workers who make and receive calls outside of their home service area.

According to the company, the service offers a universal phone number with 'find me/follow me' capabilities to reach employees on a fixed or mobile phone for immediate attention. The universal number enables users to access the PBX (News - Alert) feature on their mobile handset which in turn reduces costs by allowing users to take advantage of the same "office-based" capabilities wherever they may roam.

MobileMax' Enterprise edition platform will be used by the service to determine cost-effective routing for mobile calls. The service dynamically directs mobile calls to either Verizon's cloud-based global VoIP communications platform, powered by Broadsoft, or to the user's mobile network service.

Anthony Recine, vice president of network and communications solutions for Verizon Business has commented that with Global Fixed Mobile Convergence, companies no longer need to wrestle with productivity versus cost management to keep their business in full gear. This innovative new service helps on-the-go workers remain in touch with customers and other business colleagues while reducing the cumulative roaming charges for hundreds or thousands of roving workers.

Verizon Business has stated that the FMC service is available immediately to Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom subscribers.

The new enterprise solution works with an array of mobile devices across most GSM-based mobile operator networks located throughout the initial service area. So in order to avail the service companies need not put up additional capital, nor replace their mobile operator or handsets.

MobileMax (News - Alert) has claimed that their software's advanced capabilities will enable the global FMC to help mobilize business for some of the world's leading companies.
