TNS Provides Managed STP Solution to XO Communications

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Transaction Network Services (TNS (News - Alert)) has partnered with XO Communications to use its Managed Signaling Transfer Point (STP) solution.

Offering network, database and next generation services to over 700 telecommunications companies around the world, TNS operates the largest, independent SS7 network in North America. The company has operations in around 40 countries worldwide and can access virtually any SS7 legacy or IP network around the globe.

To proactively run the XO Communications (News - Alert) signaling network, perform augmentations, monitor the network traffic, deliver Business Intelligence reports and provide back-office support, TNS will use its Managed STP solution under this new, multi-year agreement. XO Communications has more than 90,000 customers and carries over 20 billion Voice over IP (VoIP) minutes each year. TNS will also provide CNAM storage and delivery services, TCAP-CLASS, trunk signaling, Location Validation Services, Local Number Portability information and SS7 connectivity.

Chuck Leppert, vice president of sales and marketing for TNS’ telecommunication services division, said: “We are delighted that XO Communications has placed its trust in TNS. At TNS, running SS7 networks is a core competency and our reliable Managed STP solution provides a good opportunity for telecommunications firms to make cost savings. The pressure across the industry to gain operational efficiencies has never been greater.”

XO Communications will now get features such as the STP architecture, connectivity and signaling layer from TNS in this agreement. TNS moves XO into the future by migrating XO from end-of-life equipment to Next Generation SS7 solutions as part of this solution. Also, TNS will manage the SS7 network architecture, inclusive of connectivity and signaling, utilizing parameters.

In Nov. of 2009, Digital Conceptions, a Canadian telecommunications service provider, selected Transaction Network Services (News - Alert) to be its wholesale provider of Calling Name or CNAM database services. Under this new agreement, the company will provide Digital Conceptions and its customers with access to TNS’ North American calling name database. Company officials said that TNS has provided high-quality database services since 1995, including network-based CNAM.
