Verizon Tops Unified Communications Charts from ABI Research

By Juliana Kenny, TMCnet Web Editor

A recent report from ABI Research (News - Alert) has ranked Verizon Business at top of its Hosted VoIP and Unified Communications Provider Matrix shedding light on its prime spot in its related market. As a tool developed my ABI Research to help businesses grasp the standings of certain vendors within certain markets, the Vendor Matrix analyzes aspects such as “innovation” and “implementation,” according to the company.

After New Global Telecom (News - Alert) and Smoothstone IP Communications Corporation came in second and third respectively, Subha Rama, senior analyst for ABI Research stated, “Verizon (News - Alert) is one of the few service providers with a comprehensive and global hosted VoIP and UC strategy. Its fully managed IP MPLS network forms the pivot of its hosted VoIP and UC services for mid-sized and large enterprises. An accelerated go-to-market strategy for leading-edge products such as SIP trunking, aggressive bundling, multiple vendor partnerships, and a long track record have helped Verizon consolidate its market position.”

In terms of the “innovation” part of the examination, ABI Research incorporates two types of service innovation, market leadership, service provider strategy, scalability, influence factor, among other aspects. The “implementation” part examined the “breadth and strength” of the company’s targeted markets and service integration capabilities as well as geographical presence.

Dan Shey, practice director for ABI noted, “Second-ranked NGT, the single largest provider in terms of installed base, is being acquired by Comcast (News - Alert). Smoothstone has consistently innovated in service delivery, commanding steadfast customer loyalty among large enterprises.”
