iBasis, a KPN (News - Alert) company, has expanded Asia/Pacific network to deliver premium quality intra-regional voice termination.

The company recently expanded its network footprint in Asia, including new infrastructure deployments in its central office facilities in Hong Kong and Singapore, and expanded points of access to 30 countries where customers can interconnect via managed IP or QoS-based VPN.

Officials with iBasis (News - Alert) said that the new capabilities enable Asia/Pacific service providers to utilize the company’s network for reliable, high-quality Premium Voice termination service for their intra-regional traffic.

Company officials said that prior to the network upgrade, voice traffic originating in Asia was routed through an iBasis facility in Amsterdam before reaching its termination destination in the region.

With the expansion of the iBasis footprint and completion of Asia/Pacific routing enhancements, that traffic now stays within the region.

According to company officials, this helps iBasis customers to benefit from lower latency, the highest voice quality available and more flexible interconnect options. Customers can interconnect to the iBasis service via traditional TDM, VPN (via MPLS), or managed IP for highest cost efficiency.

Premium Voice is the flagship of the iBasis international voice termination portfolio. In addition to very high quality, it guarantees advanced features including Caller Line Identifier (CLI), fax transmission, roaming, ISDN and ISUPv2.

Company officials pointed out that today, more than 70 iBasis customers interconnect to the iBasis Premium Voice service using IP to capture greater efficiency and flexibility while retaining the high quality and advanced features.

Premium Voice over IP is viewed as a pathway to implementation of IPX, the next-generation multi-service international interconnect backbone supported by the GSMA (News - Alert), which is undergoing commercial and technical trials with iBasis and other operators.

TMCnet in March 2010 reported that iBasis unveiled a next-generation global network - the iBasis IP Exchange, that is said to combine the innovation, flexibility and efficiency of IP with the security, quality and reliability of TDM.
