CounterPath (News - Alert) recently announced that it has entered into a strategic association with Altibox. Both the organizations have unveiled a unique operator-based or OTT service for consumers in Norway. Customers of Altibox can now make calls on their mobile devices using their home phone number from any place using Altibox Loop, a mobile and tablet softphone application from CounterPath, powered by Bria.

In a statement, Todd Carothers, EVP, sales and marketing, CounterPath said, "According to research firm Visiongain (News - Alert), Mobile VoIP users will exceed 180 million and generate $36 billion in revenue by 2016. As such, operators like Altibox are continually looking for ways to increase service and provide value to their customers. CounterPath's softphone solutions enable services like Altibox Loop which offset the threat of OTT players while also meeting the changing needs of their customers."

The Altibox Loop app, which was unveiled during the first week of October, is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android (News - Alert) smartphones. Altibox home phone fixed telephony subscribers can avail this service to call any phone number, not necessarily an Altibox consumer. The app features video calling, HD audio, call logs, an incorporated contact list, three-way calling and voicemail.
