Smoothstone IP Communications, a provider of cloud-based enterprise unified communications applications and services, announced the launch of Mobile Connect application for Android (News - Alert) phones.
The new fixed mobile convergence (FMC) app allows enterprises to connect their employees’ phones to the enterprise IP network, enabling them to increase mobility of their employees and drive performance efficiency. This integration also helps enterprises drive down costs.
The app allows users to converge their desktop and mobile phones. They can use a single number while maintaining privacy of personal mobile numbers.
Jeff Wellemeyer, president and CTO of Smoothstone (News - Alert), says mobile phones play an important role in fixed mobile convergence that revolutionizes the enterprise communications landscape.
“We're making it more accessible for both Android and iPhone (News - Alert) users to expand their workforces in the field while keeping all their communications on one platform,” Wellemeyer added.
Mobile Connect gives mobile employees seamless access to their enterprise communication network from their Android-powered mobile handsets. The app is available exclusively to Smoothstone customers as a free download from the Android Market and is compatible with any Android-powered phone. The app is also available for iPhone.
Enterprise's mobile workforce can benefit from the outbound calling features from Smoothstone, such as access to the company directory, low-cost international calling, 4-digit on-net dialing, and visual voice mail with one-touch access to listen to and manipulate messages, company officials said.
Outbound calls placed through Mobile Connect reflect the caller ID from the user's corporate number, not the mobile number; where as incoming calls can ring on both desk phone and mobile phone simultaneously.
In addition to these, Mobile Connect provides separate call logging, call history and voice mail. Compliance requirements and features are carried over to the mobile phone through Mobile Connect. It also allows advanced features such as call recording and centralized call detail reporting from the Smoothstone cloud-based enterprise platform.
Earlier this year Smoothstone signed partnership agreement with Sprint to provide businesses with a suite of cloud-based communications services and apps that are delivered over the telecom giant's Global MPLS network.
