Hosted VoIP Provider Aptela Ranks 197 on Deloitte's Technology Fast 500

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Hosted VoIP provider Aptela recently announced it now ranks number 197 on Technology Fast 500, Deloitte’s (News - Alert) ranking of 500 of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America.

Rankings for companies included in Deloitte’s list are based on the percentage of the fiscal year revenue growth during the period from 2005-2009. For Aptela, the company focused on small businesses and mobile workers grew 502 percent during the measured period - Douglas Strahan (News - Alert), Aptela’s CEO, attributes this growth to the dedication and perseverance of the company’s employees, as well as the financial backing of the company’s investors.

"We are proud to be recognized by this prestigious program for the third year in a row,” said Strahan, in a statement. “It is a reflection of our commitment to provide an outstanding customer experience and our focus on delivering an innovative market-leading solution.”Aptela (News - Alert) has built a reputation for providing small businesses with the tools necessary to intuitively manage and control their business communications. Aptela v5, the company’s innovative calling platform, was announced earlier this year and is said to demonstrate the power of cloud computing with horizontal scaling. “Aptela and the other 2010 Technology Fast 500 winners forged ahead in a challenging economic environment to realize exceptional growth,” said Phil Asmundson, vice chairman and Deloitte’s U.S. technology, media and telecommunications leader. "Deloitte commends Aptela for this impressive accomplishment.”

Written in Erlang/OTP and using CouchDB, the v5 platform also offers robust fault-tolerance and a remarkable high degree of concurrency. A set of APIs unifies communications for Aptela’s customers through an integrated calling platform that works with existing business processes. Aptela built this new platform from the ground up, taking advantage of technologies that are best suited to deliver a high quality customer experience.

“Aptela has proved itself to be one of the fastest growing tech companies in North America, and we are proud to honor them as one of the 2010 Technology Fast 500,” said Mark Jensen, managing partner, venture capital services, Deloitte & Touche LLP. Aptela previously ranked number 79 as a Technology Fast 500 award winner for 2009 based on 2,290 percent growth from 2004-2008 and was recognized as a Fast 500 Rising Star in 2008 with 401percent growth.

Overall, Technology Fast 500 award winners for 2010 enjoyed revenue growth ranging from 146 percent to 164,079 percent from 2005 to 2009. The average growth of all winners was 2,361 percent.

Last month Aptela announced that it added Cisco (News - Alert) IP phones to its portfolio of VoIP phones. Cisco’s SPA 300 and SPA 500 Series range from low-cost, basic IP phones to higher-end, full-featured wired and wireless desktop models - ideal for small businesses and home offices.  Benefits for small businesses include affordability, adaptability, connectivity, simplicity and feature rich options.
