SnapOne Launches Life Security Action Engine Impact Detection Prototype

Many of the different components in smart mobile devices are being used to provide a wide range of services by the healthcare, security, entertainment, financial, retail and other industries. While the technology inside every phone varies according to manufacturer, some of the sensors include a gyroscope, digital compass, three axis accelerometer, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, atmospheric pressure sensor and more. SnapOne, provider of solutions that allow users to secure and manage people, data, and devices, announced the release of its Life Security Action Engine (News - Alert) (LSAE) Impact Detection prototype, which will be using sensors to deliver valuable information.
The new solution will give device manufacturers, telecoms, insurance companies and warranty providers the ability to track and manage device sensor data to deliver real-time insights as to how they are being used.
Based on the sensory operational data within a smart mobile device, the LSAE Impact Detection uses the SnapOne real-time smartphone diagnostic technology to determine a customer's device condition. According to the company, the data that is currently available uses the accelerometer to send real-time numbers to SnapOne’s partners. Additional sensors will be used to provide more services in the future.
This data is used to make better informed decisions by the company’s partners in customer service, policy pricing, anti-fraud monitoring for warranty claims payout, underwriting, device quality assessment for trade-ins, and incentivized device-care discounts.
For insurance companies it means they will have a tool to help them fight fraud, which is a very expensive and growing problem. As it relates to mobile device warranty, 40 percent of the claims are fraudulent, this according to a reported cited by SnapOne. As it stands now, insurers are only able to detect 10 percent of these fraudulent claims. More sensors will be added to provide additional service in the near future.
With LSAE, the sensors create a signature pattern that can be analyzed to determine how and when the device broke and if it was accidental. Operators, manufacturers and vendors can use this information to compare warranty claims with actual, real-time device conditions and automated damage assessment. If the claimant gives information that contradicts when the phone broke compared to the data LSAE recorded, it gives the insurance company probable cause to deny the claim.

The LSAE Impact Detection platform can be combined into partner solutions with a range of Life Security functionalities so it can be integrated in smartphones, IoT devices and services. The cloud platform, mobile SDKs and APIs can create value-add and revenue generating security and safety monitoring solutions, including cloud synchronization and media consumption applications for consumers, families and commercial users.
