A recent study confirms why businesses are moving away from the traditional private branch exchange (PBX) system in favor of Internet Protocol (IP) systems, or a mixture of the two. Is it any surprise that a primary driver is cost savings?



Almira Labs presented its advanced voice-centric services at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) from 27th February through 1st March, 2012. With Almira Labs' services, the end user can execute a number of tasks just by speaking into a voice interface.

Spirent Communications, which is a supplier of IP/MPLS backbone routers for both wireline and mobile operators as well as provides measurement solutions for next-generation networks, has revealed to the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC), a company that offers conformance testing for network technologies and applications, that it will provide mobile network solutions to test Juniper Networks MobileNext Broadband Gateway. The company will test for performance, scalability, and flexibility of the gateway and support an environment in which both 3G and LTE Radio Access Networks (RANs) can be used in the same coverage area at the same time.



The OIF Interoperability 2012 is a platform to showcase multi-vendor participation with companies such as Altera, Amphenol, Fujitsu Optical Components, Gennum, IBM, Inphi, Luxtera, Molex, TE Connectivity and Xilinx, participating in the event. Metaswitch, another participant at this show, has announced that the company has completed interoperability tests of its Integrated Control Plane solutions.

Birns Communications, Inc., a supplier and integrator of telecom equipment in the New York metro area, has just released a cloud-based PBX VoIP for businesses. Birns is touting the many advantages that switching to the cloud can have over traditional PBX.
