Polycom (News - Alert), Inc., provider of standards-based unified communications (UC) solutions, announced the debut of Polycom SoundStation Duo, a new conference phone that has been designed with dual functionality enabling it to work over analog networks and Voice over IP (VoIP) environments. The latest release from Polycom has been developed to future proof the migration to VoIP environments for enterprises that have been considering upgrading or expanding their current circuit-switched networks, but are reluctant to do so considering that the migration to VoIP will render the new phones useless which means the investment will be a complete waste.
In a release, Paul Waadevg, principal consultant at Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert), said, "The analog to IP transition is progressing as expected. IP systems accounted for 79.5 percent of 2010 market revenues and the share of analog revenue is expected to shrink to less than seven percent at the end of 2017."
The Polycom SoundStation Duo which has been designed to function in small to midsize meeting rooms or in rooms of up to 400 square feet, is a versatile conference phone which will offer enterprise customers benefits which include use of the SoundStation Duo within analog or VoIP environments and quick upgrade via easy and simple to use online software upgrades and business continuity as the phone can automatically switch to analog mode and switch back to VoIP mode when the connection is restored.
The SoundStation Duo offers complete interoperability as it is capable of supporting a number of VoIP call platforms for enhancing voice and feature capabilities and by providing quick and easy connectivity to different UC devices. Enterprise customers don't have to worry about complex installing procedures as the SoundStation Duo is easy to set up, configure and manage and because it comes with a proven interface, the conference phone is user friendly. Additionally, users can easily connect various mobile devices, tablets, and PCs via the Polycom RealPresence software.
SoundStation Duo have been based on Polycom's advanced VoIP endpoint software providing it with capabilities such as improved call handling, security and provisioning. The phone comes with 3 microphones enabling voice pick-up in any direction up to a distance of 10 feet and uses the Polycom HD Voice to connect with other VoIP phones. Additionally, the SoundStation Duo has been provisioned with Polycom Acoustic Clarity for delivering advanced echo cancellation and enhanced performance as the phone is secured against interference from mobile phone and wireless devices.
