TMCnet IP PBX Week in Review

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

From partnerships to the sale of hosted voice services to Cassidian Communications’ next generation 9-1-1 solution and cloud based messaging service Voice2Mobiles, the IP PBX (News - Alert) arena was once again buzzing with announcements from a number of suppliers in this market.

TMCnet contributor Rahul Arora reported that next-generation communications company Telovations (News - Alert) Inc., recently inked a partnership deal with Resource Partners Group (RPG) Inc. Under the agreement, RPG will now be responsible for selling Telovations' hosted services across the United States. To offer its customers the most reliable business phone service for hosted voice solutions, the company has partnered with Cisco (News - Alert).

Likewise, New York City-based cloud communications provider Stage 2 Networks launched its enhanced business continuity service called eContinuity that offers auto failover protection to businesses that have a voice trunking network instead of hosted VoIP service.

As per the report, Stage 2's robust network allows businesses to access a comprehensive portfolio of communications services including hosted PBX and business trunking, cloud-based unified communications (UC), advanced voice applications, and network services for both voice and data.

To deliver a next-generation (NG) 9-1-1 solution to a local agency in Virginia’s Tidewater Region, Verizon Business Solutions provider Cassidian Communications Solutions teamed up with Newport Police Department’s Communications Division in Virginia to provide the Tidewater region with its first geo-diverse emergency call processing solution, reported TMCnet contributor Madhubant Rudra. Cassidian has upgraded Sentinel Patriot (News - Alert) 9-1-1 call processing system to address the needs of this geographically unique region.

Voice SMS is a new way of getting the best of both the worlds. ESJ Telecom’s Voice2Mobiles is a cloud-based messaging service that permits IP PBX extension users to send voice messages to any mobile number instantly, wrote contributing writer Jacqueline Lee. “All messages that are sent through Voice2Mobile will display the sender’s set v-card details and contain a link to the original voice message. Senders can be notified when the voice message is opened, allowing them to know whether or not their message was received,” wrote Lee.

Lastly, based on data provided by the Telecommunications Industry Association, Contributing Editor Gary Kim (News - Alert) reported that business VoIP spending is set to grow at about 9.4 percent annually from 2012 to 2015. That is good news, however, the bad news is that business IP telephony remains a small business compared to circuit-switched voice, projected to produce about $3.4 billion in total revenue in 2012, in the U.S. market, reported Kim. In 2012, circuit-switched voice will represent about $132 billion in annual revenue for service providers.
