TMCnet IP PBX Week in Review

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

As voice over IP (VoIP) gains momentum, more and more vendors are working towards interoperability, while others are opening new offices to meet customer demands. Besides these new VoIP developments, innovative products were also unwrapped this past week in the IP PBX (News - Alert) community.

Speaking of interoperability, TMCnet contributor, Raju Shanbhag reported that PortaOne (News - Alert) recently completed interoperability testing between the company’s PortaSwitch VoIP billing/subscriber management platform with DIDWW's global Direct Inward Dialing (DID) access solutions. As a result, wrote Shanbhag, telecom carriers and resellers will now get a complete, end-to-end DID service lineup in over 60 countries on five continents.

Likewise, high reliability VoIP equipment provider, Positron Telecom completed interoperability testing of its G-series IP PBX product line with SIPfish, a VoIP recording solutions provider, reported Rory Lidstone, a TMCnet contributing writer. “The tests, which were conducted at SIPfish Labs, were part of a certification program with the aim of producing a comprehensive telephony solution, including robust call recording,” wrote Lidstone.

As per this report, similar tests were also conducted in conjunction with Edgewater Communications' Plug & Dial Program and Positron's G-series line was certified in that case as well. In all cases, wrote Lidstone, “The certification process is documented in a scripted test plan which outlines all possible calling scenarios. Ultimately, this testing should provide a unified platform for enterprises which is timely as detailed call recording has been growing in popularity in today's telephony environment.”

Interoperability certification of 123Net SIP trunking solution with Toshiba's (News - Alert) telephone systems was also announced this past week. TMCnet contributing writer, David Gitonga, reported that Toshiba Telecommunication Systems Division’s IP business communication systems IPedge and Strata CIX is interoperable with 123Net’s SIP trunking. According to the suppliers, the certified products will be available at Toshiba’s authorized dealers in Michigan.

TMCnet contributor, Rajani Baburajan, reported that integrated communications solutions provider, Cincinnati Bell, has launched cloud-based Microsoft (News - Alert) Communication and Collaboration Solutions, powered by Apptix and Parallels. While Apptix is a hosted business services provider offering Microsoft Exchange e-mail, Microsoft SharePoint and business VoIP, Parallels offers cloud service delivery software. With this enhancement, Cincinnati Bell is planning to expand its telecommunications and IT services to key industry verticals such as government, healthcare and education, wrote Baburajan.

Meanwhile, this quarter, Vocality (News - Alert) plans to launch its BASICS multivoice for FleetBroadband, a new device for multi-voice PBX. The multivoice PBX extends single voice capability to support eight concurrent phone calls without the need of extra equipment, wrote TMCnet contributor, Michelle Amodio.

Lastly, TMCnet contributor, Jyothi Shanbhag reported that IP voice/video telephony and video surveillance solution specialist, Grandstream Networks opened new office in Valencia, Venezuela to keep up with customer growth in Latin America.
