Harris’ new WiMax solution is designed for mobile operators in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America seeking to augment their mobile cellular services with fixed, nomadic and mobile broadband services.
The company’s officials say that a key demographic are Tier 2 and 3 service providers targeting residential and business users with data, VoIP and video-on-demand services. Harris Stratex has decided to provide advanced wireless transmission solutions for both mobile and WiMax backhaul networks.
According to the company, one cornerstone is the new 7000 Series WiMax platform that supports flexible base station architectures and a large range of cost-effective subscriber units. As the 7000 Series also supports 450/700MHz for cost effective deployments in sparsely populated rural areas, it is an ideal match for deployments in locations such as Africa.
The new comprehensive solution also includes Harris Stratex’s Eclipse platform for wireless IP backhaul and core network services elements (ASN and CSN). All these are encompassed under an integrated umbrella network management system provided by the company’s NetBoss Service Assurance platform.
Harris Stratex will also provide extensive range of turnkey services to service providers including everything from business planning, network design and optimization, IP transmission network design, installation and maintenance through to a complete managed network service.
WiMax networks are delivering increased broadband services to many developing and emerging economies around the world, according to Emmy Johnson, a principal at Sky Light Research. To succeed, Johnson said, the networks require support from the complete ecosystem including backhaul support along with comprehensive, cost-efficient service and management expertise.
She added that programs such as these allow mobile operators and service providers to be better positioned to succeed in delivering the mobile broadband services that customers require and ultimately create a better customer experience.
Harris Stratex President and Chief Executive Officer Harald Braun said his company is focused on delivering wireless transmission capabilities, so it can provide customers with the close attention and collaboration that they’ll need to succeed.
