Colorado Service Provider Picks REDCOM HDX Softswitch

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Colorado-based Agate Mutual Telephone Cooperative Association, has announced it installed a REDCOM (News - Alert) High Density Exchange (HDX) softswitch at its central office. The rural service provider is future proofing their network by replacing an existing REDCOM Modular Digital Exchange with ISDN (MDX-) switch.

Serving as a powerful, next-generation Carrier Class 4/5 softswitch, the HDX will allow Agate to offer its customers Next Generation Network services. Service providers deploying REDCOM’s HDX softswitch know that the product will allow them to deploy flexible networks.

This flexibility ensures that companies are able to address dynamic consumer demands, regulatory conditions and a competitive marketplace for value-added telecommunications services. Once they have implemented HDX in the central office, service providers can quickly and easily introduce new services to its customers without investing heavily in hardware and operations. HDX ensures that they can increase their revenue by leveraging their existing infrastructure.

Agate Mutual Telephone is experiencing rapid growth and is well-positioned to create and deliver new revenue-generating services. Thanks to the extensive SIP trunking capabilities of HDX, they can also retrofit their network faster and more cost-effectively than with traditional phone lines.

REDCOM HDX softswitch was chosen as it interoperates with a wide range of protocols and interfaces, noted Gail Pitzer, general manager, Agate Mutual Telephone.

“HDX is a cost-effective overlay on our existing network and is a solid migration path to Next Generation services. This is an investment in the future and the quality of our advanced communications services for our customers.”

Agate Mutual Telephone has also purchased the HDX softswitch to fully comply with its obligations regarding the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) and Local Number Portability (LNP).

According to officials, CALEA mandates service providers in the United States to modify their equipment, facilities, and services to allow for authorized electronic surveillance. LNP allows service subscribers to switch local or wireless carriers and still retain the same phone number.
