Italy-based triple-play telecommunications provider WIND Telecomicazioni SpA said that it has migrated its business intelligence (BI) analysis to Netezza’s data warehouse appliance platform.
In order to “significantly” enhance performance while controlling costs, WIND Telecom desired to move away from the previous technology. In addition, company said that it’s also evaluating Netezza (News - Alert) for other data warehousing initiatives.
“As we approached 10 terabytes of data, we started to experience performance issues with the legacy systems, and decided to search for an alternative,” said Massimo Pistoni, business intelligence manager at WIND Telecom, in a release.
He said that the company evaluated platforms such as those offered by IBM, Sybase (News - Alert), Teradata and Netezza, and selected Netezza’s platform for its “compelling” price/performance ratio.
Pistoni said that the data was “quickly” migrated to the Netezza system, and company uses Business Objects (News - Alert) and SPSS Clementine to perform the analysis. He added, “We already have about 500 users who are accessing the new business intelligence system with great satisfaction.”
Joe Napoli, country manager for Italy at Netezza, said that the Netezza system was specified and installed by Netezza partner ICare, a local data warehousing and BI specialist.
He claimed that WIND Telecom users are impressed by their new ability to perform increasingly complex queries in near real time, indicating that BI team plans to further extend the use of Netezza later this year.
Netezza is a provider of data warehouse and analytic appliances. Company says that its Netezza family of appliances brings appliance simplicity to a broad range of complex data warehouse and analytic challenges.
Earlier this month, Italian superstore chain Esselunga S.p.A. announced that it moved its enterprise data warehouse (EDW) platform to Netezza, consolidating its data and enhancing consistency when compiling statutory reports.
