Aretta Communications, which provides small and medium-sized businesses with simple, robust cloud-based telephony, has announced interoperability with Polycom (News - Alert) SoundPoint IP handsets.

Officials with Aretta said that as a result of the interoperability, users will be able to integrate the most popular features of the NetPBX Pro and NetSIP trunking platform with Polycom's products.

In addition, company officials said that features like the ability to provision fully compliant Polycom SIP phones via an automated Web interface from Aretta are now included.  

Phone configurations are generated immediately and securely stored on Aretta provisioning servers.  

Also, Aretta users can add additional phones on an as-needed basis, eradicating the need for expensive truck rolls and lengthy wait times.

NetPBX Pro, a cloud-based IP-PBX developed especially for small and medium businesses, is Asterisk (News - Alert)-based and can be provisioned in minutes upon order.  

Priced by the channel and allowing for unlimited extensions, NetPBX Pro includes all of the advanced telephony features enterprises and call centers have come to expect at no additional charge.

Company officials said that NetSIP trunking connects Asterisk or other IP-PBXs to the public phone network, enabling users to check call detail records in real time, order phone numbers from more than 6,300 rate centers in 43 countries, configure failover, and more.

Fribush said that the ability to interoperate with Polycom is an important step in providing the customers with access to the widest variety of options in the marketplace, making it easier and faster than ever for SMBs to have enterprise-class telephony solutions.

Carl Ford (News - Alert), Partner at Crossfire Media also said that interoperability is a necessary ingredient for innovation of services and technologies that create new value for users.

Ford said that interoperability has important economic consequences, especially for SMBs, which are continually looking for ways to keep costs down.
