New PC-Based, Search-and-Dial Application Aastra Connector Unveiled

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Aastra, a provider of communications products and applications for businesses, announced the launch of a new PC-based search-and-dial application, Aastra Connector, in order to simplify phone communications.

In a press release, Tim Whittington, executive VP and GM of Aastra (News - Alert) USA, said that the company’s Aastra Connector is an innovative solution that will provide the company’s customers with rich PC-phone integration.

According to Aastra, Aastra Connector is a PC-based search-and-dial application that augments the value of IP phones as well as network systems by unifying telephony call control with Microsoft and Google (News - Alert) PC desktop tools. The system leverages XML API that is built into Aastra SIP phones. Consequently, users can automatically control their phone via these APIs.

The company also offers an optional Aastra Connector Softphone along with the product. The system allows users to control the built-in softphone using PC speaker and microphone or using a USB phone. The softphone further enhances value for Aastra users by providing the same User Interface “UI” and functionality as the PC application.

Users can type the name of a person or business into the Aastra Connector telephony tool bar once connected to the system’s desk phone or softphone. It can then make contact matches from Outlook, Clearspan Directory, Active Directory or LDAP directories, Google Maps or Google Search. Once matched, a pop-up will arrive wherein users can click on the contact to dial.

In addition, users can set the application to automatically open an Outlook contact for incoming calls, then do a Windows desktop search, or generate a toast-pop based on incoming caller ID.

Easily available as a PC download and install, the new Aastra Connector is also customizable. And, it also features mass-deployment capabilities, thereby making it ideal for SMB and large enterprises.

Officials with Aastra said that the new PC-based search-and-dial application, Aastra Connector, acts as a single access point for users to instantly search for and dial contacts. It also allows for instant retrieval of contact information, documents, and emails based on incoming caller ID.

Whittington added, “It has simple-to-use search-and-dial capabilities that will improve productivity and enhance the Aastra value proposition to our end-customers.”
