Voalte Inks Strategic Partnership with Meru Networks

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Voalte, a developer of point-of-care communications software on the Apple iPhone (News - Alert) and other smartphone platforms, has signed a strategic partnership deal with Meru Networks, Inc., a company specializing in virtualized Wireless LAN solutions based on 802.11n standard.

"Our channel layering and Virtual CellTM architecture pools radio resources into a predictable and reliable layer of coverage, so we avoid the artificial boundaries that microcell-based wireless LAN systems impose," Sarosh Vesuna, vice president of business development for Meru Networks (News - Alert) said.

"Meru's virtualized WLAN solution is especially beneficial to nurses and clinicians who must roam throughout the hospital during their shifts," Vesuna added.

Voalte's application is said to enable users to send and receive presence-based text messages, make high definition voice calls across the hospital VoIP or PBX (News - Alert) systems, and receive critical care alarms on the iPhone, providing faster response to patient needs. Voalte's voice processing module is specifically designed to embrace the significant challenges inherent in a hospital Wi-Fi environment. Coupled with Meru's revolutionary Voice over Wireless LAN technology, Voalte provides a reliable, scalable communications solution that meets the heavy demands of VoIP in the clinical environment.

Trey Lauderdale, vice president of innovation at Voalte, believes that this partnership with Meru will help the company extend its capacity to improve workflow and patient care in hospitals across the nation.

Lauderdale also said that the combined solution will help their mutual customers an unmatched end-user and support experience.

Parkview Health System in Fort Wayne, Ind., recently became the first hospital in the Midwest to install the Voalte solution with Meru's infrastructure. Click here to read this announcement.

"With Voalte and Meru, we believe hospitals like Parkview will be able to accelerate critical care, improve patient safety, and keep nurses and clinicians continuously connected as they roam throughout the hospital," Lauderdale added.
