Allied Telesis Announces New Series of Multiservice Residential Gateways

Allied Telesis has launched the AT-iMG616, its new series of intelligent Multiservice Gateways (iMG). The company is positioning the new devices as the successors to its highly successful AT-RG613 series of residential gateways, which have been deployed by multiple carriers and Network Service Providers (NSPs) across the globe.

The AT-iMG616 includes six 10/100TX ports, compared to three in the AT-RG613 series. Customers can use these ports to connect a higher number of devices like computers or set-top boxes to the Internet; remote configuration and management; and top-flight security protection for the user.

Allied Telesis’ new gateways are simple to install using a low-cost AT-iMG001 fiber wall outlet to provide the fiber termination. Also featured in the outlet is a locking mechanism that can be used by the service provider to lock the AT-iMG616 in place and prevent the end-user from inadvertently removing it.

The AT-iMG616 will immediately start communication with the NSP’s equipment via the fiber port with the application of power. Zero Touch Configurator software from Allied Telesis can automatically start a secure authentication and registration process and send configuration information back to the AT-iMG616 without requiring user intervention. The users simply have to connect their computer, TV, phones, or other devices to the gateway.

Additionally, the AT-iMG616 supports a broad spectrum of softswitch manufacturers and models. This ensures compatibility and interoperability with the NSP’s existing equipment. A wide range of security capabilities are included in the AT-iMG616 to ensure maximum protection of the customer's PC and other devices from hacking or other intrusion attempts. The security capabilities include an integral Stateful Inspection Firewall with NAT, as well as blockage of Denial of Service, port scanning, and web spoofing attacks.

The AT-iMG616 is ideal for the residential customers who can plug their existing telephone into one of its two analog ports instead of the wall socket. The customers have the equivalent of an extra phone line for other members of the household or to connect an additional device such as a fax machine.

“The AT-iMG616 series is an ideal choice of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for NSPs looking to provide the next generation of high-speed voice, video and data services to subscribers via a Fiber-To-The-Home network,” said Melvyn Wray, senior vice president of Marketing EMEA at Allied Telesis in a press release.

“With its easy remote provisioning, it also saves NSPs significant time and costs on the initial deployment as well as on the subsequent provision of upgrades and new services,” he concluded.

Founded in 1987, Allied Telesis is a member of the Allied Telesis Group, a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP access solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play (News - Alert) networks over copper and fiber access infrastructure.
