Brix Networks Announces Service Solution for Fixed/Mobile Environments

Brix Networks has announced expanded product capabilities that offer mobile network operators quality of experience visibility from the network core to cell phones. The company’s BrixMobile solution enables providers to conduct automated, end-to-end testing and service performance monitoring from the MPLS/IP core to a user’s handset.

The new solution collects and reports on a variety of per-user quality of experience and QoS metrics, and also enables consumers to test the quality of their services and view the results on their own handsets, in real time. The distributed BrixMobile system offers an on-demand Java agent installed on cell phones, as well as a correlation and visualization engine which is deployed at a central location. The agent reports on a number of key metrics, including voice, delivery and signaling quality. It sends reports in real time to offer visibility into overall service performance.

BrixMobile enables Brix to offer quality of experience assurance in a converged mobile environment. It offers a platform for service providers to deploy next-generation architectures, including IMS, and offers assurance to consumers who expect multimedia services to operate across wireline and wireless networks. Network operators may use the solution to guarantee the performance of IP services like VoIP, IPTV (News - Alert) and VPNs.

“Mobile providers need actionable information to verify the quality of their offered services,” said Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research, in a press release. “Brix is an acknowledged leader in voice, video, data - and now mobile - assurance. We like the innovation to deploy the measuring tool in the handset, as it is eminently pragmatic, useful to the user, and should prove to be of value for mobile operators in attracting more customers to use their mobile services.”

“With convergence occurring both at the network core and on handsets, the use of real-time audio, video, gaming, and integrated business applications on mobile devices is expanding greatly,” said Robert Travis, director of solutions marketing at Brix Networks (News - Alert). “As a result, consumers expect a level of performance and service quality that is consistent with their desktop applications. With BrixMobile, providers can have a deeper, unified view of their networks' performance and users' experience, plus differentiate their offerings based on quality - all from the same scalable, intelligent platform.”
