Twitter Gets a Face-Lift

By Juliana Kenny, TMCnet Web Editor

Tweeters will now be able to view photos and videos on Twitter’s refurbished website as the microblogging host streamlines its multimedia-driven content. Making partnerships with other sites including  Flickr, Vimeo, and YouTube (News - Alert), Twitter has gotten a bit of a face-lift as it simplified and enhanced the user experience.

With new features such as embedded videos, detail panes showing related content, and mini profiles, Twitter.com is planning to roll out the latest developments over the next few weeks so users will be able to switch back and forth to grow accustomed to the site’s new layout.

Splitting the site’s content into two panes, Twitter.com will contain the familiar content that tweeters are used to and combine it with more area for tweets, retweets, searches, and lists.

This revamping of the global social media site coincides with the recent announcement that Twitter processes 90 million tweets per day. Backed by a pillow embroidered with the words “Home, Tweet, Home” Twitter’s co-founder Evan Williams (News - Alert) stated that the object of the website’s overhaul is to make the user experience “faster, more responsive, and less work.”

Twitter’s traffic has significantly increased this year, including a 250 percent increase in traffic across mobile devices, but when the company is asked about going public, the response is that Twitter has to work on its business model before it can offer public stock.
