Cavium Networks has announced the launch of the ECONA CNS3XXX family of highly integrated SoC processors featuring a rich set of integrated hardware accelerators and variety of I/Os for glueless voice, video and data connectivity.
The company has designed the ECONA CNS3XXX family for applications including FTTH broadband gateways, network attached storage appliances, multimedia picture frames, media and print servers, IP cameras and wireless access points.
Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst with Parks Associates (News - Alert) explained that worldwide service providers are considering deploying gateway-based services such as media storage, parental controls and premium technical support.
It is very important for these service providers to have headroom for performance and power-consumption on the gateway so that they can expand these service offerings. Scherf noted that the ECONA CNS3XXX family offers high-performance general purpose computing and dedicated hardware acceleration in an extremely low power and cost profile. All these capabilities can adequately meet the critical cost and energy needs of the service providers.
Sandeep Vij, VP and GM of Broadband and Consumer Division at Cavium Networks (News - Alert) also said that the new launch can deliver quality performance and features at extremely attractive power and cost points.
He pointed out that this newest addition to the ECONA family will allow their customers to drive the next wave of consumer and broadband applications in the digital home and connected office.
The ECONA CNS3XXX SoC processor family includes a number of features such as High Performance ARM11 MPCore Processors and Caches; Over 10 Application Acceleration Engines to deliver maximum performance; High-bandwidth, low-latency integrated Memory, System and Networking Interfaces; and Super low power starting at under 1 watt.
The ECONA CNS3XXX Software Development Kit (SDK) includes Linux SMP, GNU Toolchain, Simple Executive for fast path applications, performance tools, simulator, feature rich APIs for hardware acceleration and an extensive set of reference applications.
Cavium is also offering production ready software toolkits and multi-core software architecture and design consulting services.
