Interop presented an exciting opportunity for those in the technology and telecommunications space as it brought multiple players together in one location to provide informative presentation on new offerings, next-generation technologies and opportunities for the coming year.
TMCnet took advantage of the opportunity to speak with a number of key industry players at Interop this year, including Internap (News - Alert). Amar Khan, Vice President of Product Management for Internap, had an opportunity to visit the TMCnet media booth for an interview captured in this video.
Internap offers services in 3 major areas: IP service, premium performance; data center services; and finally CDM service. As for new things happening, Khan noted that Interop is a very exciting show as they announced a new product: XIP, a traffic acceleration service.
Khan highlighted that traditionally, appliances were needed to accelerate traffic. Internap is the first to market with an appliance-free solution, which eliminates the need for WAN optimization add-ons.
As for benefits to the enterprise, there is now no need for appliances that can be cumbersome. As Khan stated, people want to take hardware out of their facilities and manage them in the cloud. For those who want acceleration in the cloud - they can now have it.
Ease of use is another differentiation for Internap as there is nothing on the customer's site needed to access the information they want. The company developed the service so customers get it seamlessly with a click of a button on the customer portal. The solution is designed to be very transparent to deliver 2-4 x acceleration.
As for an industry outlook, Khan noted, "A good example is that one of our first clients that plans on utilizing the service, they told us, 'hey look, we already use your IP service and it's already the best performing,' because we route based on performance rather than policies. They already subscribe to our service because of that and when they saw the benefits of this service, they really recognize that."
Users don't really want to download plug-ins and software to use sites and this solution eliminates this step, offering a value to both the company and its customers. For more information on Internap, check out this video in full.
