KAYAK recently launched the newest version of its popular iPhone application, which incorporates the new functionality of ground transportation, provided by GroundLink, a travel technology company. GroundLink seamlessly connects supply and demand for the ground travel industry worldwide by offering ground travel services such as vendor selection, booking, billing, execution, and settlement.
In a release, Alex Mashinsky, CEO of GroundLink, said, “This gives KAYAK users a great tool in situations when they need transportation but do not want to rent a car. Our offering allows people to find sedans, SUVs and stretch limousines anywhere in the world. Everyone in the travel industry is looking for additional revenue streams, especially untapped ones. Our technology and marketplace now allows any retail or corporate user to order ground transportation with less effort than renting a car.”
Ground Transportation, in spite of being a multi-billion dollar global industry, it has often been overlooked by the travel industry owing to the fragmentation and complexity involved in offering consistent global services, said company officials. GroundLink, with a global network spanning over about 5,000 airports, 15,000 cities and 45,000 providers, expects ground transportation to be the next big trend in ancillary revenues. Its iPhone (News - Alert) application allows any user to order ground transportation quickly and efficiently.
In a release, Bill O’Donnell, KAYAK chief architect, said, “We’re excited about the added flexibility this service gives to KAYAK Mobile users.”
GroundLink provides partners, online travel agencies and airlines with seamless access to its ground travel marketplace with its unique API technology. This helps GroundLink's partners to offer ground travel services to their customers while maintaining control over their websites. The partnership with GroundLink helped KAYAK in effortlessly integrating the API-based GroundLink marketplace into their application for ground transportation in a few weeks, which endowed KAYAK’s users with the facility to book service in three simple steps.
GroundLink, a travel technology company that aggregates, manages and executes limousine, taxi, shuttle, car-rental and public transportation services, also provides individuals, corporations and partners with a single booking and reservation system for all forms of transportation, worldwide under one-account.
