Push Pop Press has made an interactive iOS version of Al Gore’s popular environmental book, “Our Choice.”
The application creates an “interactive layer” to the book, explains Mashable. It features about 90 minutes of videos, some 20 interactive informational graphics, and photos that can be displayed on a map to pinpoint where the picture was shot, adds Mashable.
One informational graphic shows a nation’s rate of deforestation. Another graphic shows each state’s potential wind energy output.
A former vice president and Nobel (News - Alert) Laureate – Gore narrates parts of the book.
In a recent story by Mashable, it said the interface from Push Pop Press “goes far beyond what one would find with Kindle or iBooks. The entire screen is occupied by content, and multimedia items can literally be lifted off the page using finger gestures. You can also pinch and zoom on just about any piece of content, and you can move through the book’s various chapters using your finger to scroll. All of it also plays nicely on the iPhone.”
Push Pop Press is planning to work on similar interactive applications for other books, Mashable reports. So far, none have been announced.
There is no word yet what the price of the “Our Choice” app will be. The app will be sold in the App Store by the end of March.
Gore has long championed the environment. Many of his suggestions are practical and often save consumers money on their electricity bills.
TMCnet reported that Gore called for using:
- Florescent light bulbs;
- Outdoor solar lighting;
- Programmable thermostats.
In 2001, Gore was a keynote speaker for TMC’s (News - Alert) Communications Solutions Expo. He spoke on technology's impact on the economy, the opportunities new technology creates for businesses and consumers, and their impact on quality of life in America, according to TMCnet.
